The ASA project has been running since 2016 to 2019. It started with a baseline study to assess the availability of medicines and commodities which prevent maternal mortality due to unsafe abortions. In 2017/18 we engaged communities to get their views about issues affecting them regarding SRHR and this was implemented in 13 sub-counties so far.

The project aims to support the prevention of maternal mortality due to unsafe abortion through community level engagement and research findings to increase access to safe services for prevention and management of unwanted pregnancies for marginalized women and youth of reproductive age in Kamuli, Uganda. HEPS intends to support the CSMMUA coalition work by providing evidence as we build one of the pillars of the coalition work to increase access to safe services for prevention and management of unwanted pregnancy.

Goal: To improve access to sexual reproductive health commodities especially for marginalized women and youth of reproductive age in Uganda.

Objectives:

-To increase awareness within the communities of Kamuli on sexual and reproductive health and rights issues especially for women and youth of reproductive age.

– Reduce stock-outs of commodities for prevention and management of abortions at health facilities in Kamuli through health providers and community leaders

– Engage national stakeholders (CSMMUA, MoH, Parliamentarians etc) to improve access to commodities to prevent maternal mortality due to unsafe abortions.

To achieve the objective of the above mentioned project, HEPS conducted an assessment on sexual and reproductive health on the availability of medicines and commodities from five facilities in Kamuli district and four of them are HC3 and HC IV.
