Immunisation campaign continues: HEPS-Uganda@25 carried out an immunization outreach in Kitwala village, Muwangi sub-county, Kyankwanzi district, supported by Uganda National Expanded Program on Immunization (UNEPI). In this community, many mothers give birth at home or with traditional birth attendants (TBAs). The outreach provided these mothers with vital information about the advantages of immunization and ensured that their children received the necessary vaccinations. In this campaign, HEPS-Uganda@25 is focusing on lowering the number of zero-dose and under-vaccinated children in underserved Kyankwanzi, Kiboga, and Mubende districts
National Conference on Health, Human Rights, and Development: HEPS-Uganda@25 took part in the Second Biennial Uganda National Conference on Health, Human Rights, and Development (UCHD 2025), convened by our partners Center for Health, Human Rights and Development (CEHURD). The theme for this year’s conference was “The Right to Health: Bridging Gaps Across Sectors to Achieve Equitable Health for All.”
National dialogue on Lenacapavir rollout roadmap: HEPS Uganda@25 co-convened a high-level dialogue themed: “Sustaining the National HIV Prevention Response and Advancing the Adoption and Rollout of the Long-acting Injectable Lenacapavir Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)”. The dialogue was co-convened with the National HIV Prevention Coalition (NPC) and Uganda AIDS Commission (UAC), with funding and technical support from AVAC. Our Executive Director, Kenneth Mwehonge, contributed as a panelist in the discussions held at the dialogue.

Mityana District: Residents of Busunju Town Council in Ssekanyonyi Subcounty, Mityana District, are increasingly alarmed by the deteriorating state of health services in their area. They are appealing to the government to step up efforts by increasing medical supplies and improving infrastructure in public health facilities.
Bunyoro: Bishop Nicholas Kasaija of Hoima Christian Fellowship Church said that the leaders have committed to directly participating in the campaign aimed at bringing down the spread of HIV in the area. To achieve this, they have developed a program to sensitise all pastors and believers under their jurisdiction about HIV, providing them with relevant information to arouse their curiosity to actively participate in the fight against the spread of the virus.

Ebola breaks out in DR Congo: The latest Ebola outbreak in Kasai province in southern DR Congo is being hampered by a lack of infrastructure, including roads and transport. Samples from the index case and five other suspected cases took eight days to get to the National Public Health Laboratory (INRB) in Kinshasa. The index case, a pregnant woman, died on 25 August – five days after seeking care at Bulape General Hospital in Kasai province with Ebola symptoms. At least 15 people, including four health workers, have died in the latest Ebola outbreak, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
